The key feature of your website will be that two of the most important web site features will be solidly under your control.  The  first of these is price.  You can change every price in the whole website to suit your local conditions, and desired profit margins.  As a matter of fact the prices that are in the database when you start out are not realistic at all.  This is done to ensure that you will set the prices to suit your business.  As a matter of fact, you can change any price whenever you want and as often as you want.  Every client has complete control over his own prices, and no interference from another client is possible as the software that accesses the prices is password protected.  The price-changing software is within your site on the Internet, as are the instructions to use it.  In addition, there is free telephone support to get you over the hump as you begin to change your prices.  And you get to keep the whole price without some one taking a large percentage off the top.

The system we offer is not based on a shopping cart for three important reasons.  Firstly, a shopping cart system is more expensive to create and administer than a standard website.  Secondly, the back-end facilitator who collects and forwards the money to you charges a percentage of the order for his trouble.  Third, there are often inventory problems that complicate the order fulfillment process.  When a small operation experiences dramatic increases in sales, the problems associated with inventory control can often wipe out the profits that should have been there.

One of the powerful secrets of this new system is to take orders and credit card numbers by telephone.  Even today there are many potential clients who are reluctant to give out their credit card information on the Internet, but who will happily give their card number to a stranger on the other end of the telephone.  Actually, the telephone is much more secure, as it requires a court order to wiretap a telephone.  Additionally, it provides you, the florist, the opportunity to talk to your customer.  This gives you the chance to upsell them, and explain any inventory shortages, or special requirements, and gives them the chance to add special substitutions, which will likely increase the price.  Let's also remember that the best way to sell and hold a customer is one-on-one.  The Internet will bring them to your door as it were with money in their hands.  But you still need to exercise your usual salesmanship over the telephone.

Future Customers
One important and often overlooked reason for placing emphasis on the value of Internet orders is that each order you deliver that originated on the Internet gives you the opportunity to create a new customer locally in the recipient.  Where else can you advertise your business for free and enjoy an order at the same time.  Remember also, that a happy recipient is bound to pass their pleasure along to the sender, who already knows how to find you.  With his first order he's taking a chance, but with feedback from a happy recipient he's reasonably sure that he'll get good service from you in the future, and is bound to come back.
