Aquilifer was founded early in 1998 and has been busily immersed in the web
design milieu ever since. The intervening time has seen major shifts in
the maturity of the web, Yahoo's and Netscape's decline, Internet Explorer's and
Google's ascension, and the disappearance of once dominant Search Engines such
as Infoseek, Go, and Goto. It seems there have been more lies told and
more liars talking about how to dominate in the Internet than in all other human
endeavors combined. There have been many brain-dead moves on the part of
the search engines and the website owners over the years, but today we find that
there are 3 main competitive search engines which do a reasonably satisfactory
and consistent job of indexing billions of web pages and documents. Still,
we feel that Google tends to revamp their algorithms a little too often and
drastically for our taste. Although the search engine wars have presented a
very interesting challenge, to be honest it has been quite expensive and very
time consuming to try and stay current with all that is happening. Also
disappointing in that so many are indifferent to what their ranking is, or even
that important keywords are prominent on their website. The difference is
revenue and quality of life.
For years I owned and operated a computer store. The happiest sights
that I remember are customers coming through the door with cash in their hand.
In other words, a qualified and pre-sold customer. Somehow by reputation,
previous visit or advertising they had decided to make a purchase with us.
Every visitor to your website can be that person in the doorway with cash in
their hand. That's a challenge we enjoy and have mastered.
Since 1998 we have worked with dozens of clients in creating websites ranging
from 2 to 1200 pages. Some of those clients have blossomed, while others
did not do so well. Looking back we have found that those who achieved the
greatest success were those who were receptive to advice, and who made the
commitment to creating a real web presence. Others seemed to feel that a
website was a necessary evil like a flu shot, and never understood that it could
be one of the world's best business builders and order generators.
Aquilifer designs all of its webs to current web standards and usually
subjects all of a site's pages to validation. This leads to quicker and
more accurate search engine analysis and listing. It also implies that the
web pages will display properly on all the different browsers that are out
there. To be practical we test our pages on Netscape 7.0 or newer,
Internet Explorer 6.0 or Firefox 1.0. This covers 98% of the browser
traffic out there.
